Pennant Hills Demons is an Australian rules football club competing in the Sydney AFL league and based out of the Sydney suburb of Pennant Hills. Their home ground is Ern Holmes Oval.
The club was formed in 1971. The best and fairest in the first season was awarded to Edward "Nobby" Clark, an ex Sydney Naval player and NSW representative with a classy left foot, originally from Western Australia. Pennant Hills were promoted to the top Sydney grade, the SFL (now Sydney AFL Premier Division) in 1977.
The club has twice won the premiership. Their first premiership was in 2000, when they defeated North Shore 15.12 (102) to 12.7 (79) at Macquarie University. Their second was in 2006, in driving rain on a quagmire at Henson Park. The Demons scored eight behinds in a row, all of them on the run, to come from six points down to defeat the previously undefeated East Coast Eagles by just two points. The final score was: Pennant Hills 5.20 (50) defeated East Coast 7.6 (48).
The club produced Lenny Hayes, who plays for the St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League. Mark McVeigh also played for Pennant Hills before being drafted by the Essendon Football Club, as well as his younger brother Jarrad McVeigh who was drafted by the Sydney Swans.
The most recent rising talent in the AFL who started at Pennant Hills Demons AFC is Kieren Jack, son of West Tigers and rugby league legend, Garry Jack. Jack currently plays for the Sydney Swans and is one of the competitions elite taggers.
